I was inspired to write this song after facing unexpected issues that delayed working at my summer job in 2015. As someone who needed to grow up at an accelerated rate and become my own parent, I had to learn and resolve these issues on the fly. I was envious of my co-workers who were younger, and were all ready to work thanks to their parents’ presence and efforts in preparing them. I spent many hours calling customer service, and driving to different places to find help. It was frustrating because these types of problems in life were not found in any schoolbook I read, nor any assignment. The solutions weren’t things I was taught how to do in class. I asked myself, “Why is it tough for me and not them?”

But even though I felt very defeated I didn’t give up hope. While returning home after an unsuccessful day I looked up, and soaked in the sunset. Embracing it, I felt the courage to try again the next day.

Thankfully, the story eventually ends on a good note. This song serves as reassurance to anyone that “this too, shall pass.”
